The most commonly used course structures

When creating a new course, you will be asked to select the structure you’d like to begin with. There are two main course types that one may use for courses: Plus and Non-Plus.

Plus course structures are always used with curriculum where Outcomes will be involved. These structures contain important components which drive outcomes and are connected to specific reporting for Outcomes. Most programs will use a Plus structure template. It is important to use these structures in their default states as much as possible so Outcomes reporting can be accurate and effective.

Non-Plus course structures do not require the aforementioned components for Outcomes, and should only be used in cases where our Outcomes team is not needed. These are great for building educational/instructional activities for an internal staff or special program candidates.

In either the Plus or Non-Plus templates the most used types are:

Basic – A course consisting of a single content section

SAP (Self Assessment) – A self-assessment course presented in a question and answer approach.

One can add components into either of these structures to build up the course to meet their needs. Feel free to view the “Course Components” article to learn more.
